Yes, it’s true – you read that title right.

Although he undoubtedly would have probably preferred the couch potato version of Koala life – calmly hugging a tree, sleeping, and munching delicious eucalyptus…

Apparently a Koala bear in Australia has an amazing thrill ride survivor story all his own: he was hit by a car going 60 mph, and the “ride” continued another 7 miles until another car flagged the car which hit him over. His head was lodged in the grill, and he was “hanging on” with one adept Koala arm.

“‘To have him survive virtually unscathed is quite miraculous.’ Australian Wildlife Hospital spokeswoman Carolyn Beaton told Rueters Tuesday.”

He was named “Ely ‘Lucky’ Grills” by rescuers.

“Lucky” will be having a 45 day stay at Steve Irwin’s animal hospital, one of the best places possible, where he’ll receive optimal care, and some celebrity treatment – no doubt…!

Check out the photos, he looks very happy to be alive. Here is the full aol article with pictures:

Orangutans

I was very sad to read the article link below, and find out that orangutans are rapidly facing extinction. They have been a favorite animal of mine since I can remember. I’ll never forget a time a Zoo where I was astonished by one orangutan – you could tell how incredibly intelligent he was. There was a crowd gathered watching him, and he was truly watching us just as much.

There is so much going on with wildlife in the world – in terms of decline of both animals and habitat. Often it feels like there’s little we can do, or we might wonder, “what can we do – is there anything?” Here is a link to the Defenders of Wildlife site, where you can “adopt” a very wide variety of animals, and donate to/or read about projects to protect them, if you are inspired. The adoptions are an especially great gift for children, and the packages include info, pictures, and a stuffed animal, depending on the donation.

Have you ever swam with dolphins, or would you like to?

Dolphins are amazing, they have all our best human qualities in abundance; they thrive on being playful, gentle, and caring…

Here is a truly incredible dolphin story where a dolphin voluntarily “talks” to and rescues two beached whales. His name is Moko, and he regularly plays with swimmers off the beach (there is video of him too):

 Some Dolphin facts:

  • Dolphins have been measured diving as deep as 1000 ft
  • Some dolphin species can swim as fast as 25 miles an hour for long periods, more than 3 times faster than any humans
  • Dolphins can jump as high as 20 feet out of the water

for fun – you can have fun with them, or answer them as
seriously as you like – whatever you are in the mood for…)
